Here's some more of what Bill Knowlton, of WCNY-FM's
"Bluegrass Ramble" show (Syracuse/Utica/Watertown, NY, has
to say about Joe and this project:
"Syracuse has honored Joe with Syracuse Area Music Awards (SAMMYs)
as Best Bluegrass instrumentalist, Bluegrass Vocalist, and, with the
Delaney Brothers, Best Bluegrass Band. On this, his first solo album,
in addition to members of Delaney Brothers Bluegrass (Ray and John
Delaney, Scott Corbett, and Frank Dauenhauer), Joe is joined by Perry
Cleaveland, Ted Lambert, Doug Henrie, Anthony Iglesias and Jason Rafalak,
all of whom he has worked with in Central NY bluegrass events and
jam sessions for many years.
"On this CD, Joe plays such fiddling standards as "Redwing,"
"Billy In the Low Ground," "Maiden's Prayer,"
and "Devil's Dream," but he's especially proud of including
a tune he wrote for his wife called "Waltz For Darbie."
What does Joe Davoli like about the World of Bluegrass? "I like
the teamwork and improvisational aspects of it; it's challenging.
I like the purity and wholesomeness of the lyrics. The festival scene
is great too; I can bring my kids (Nick, Olivia, and Jo-Jo) and feel
confident that they're in a fun and safe environment." Well,
"Diamond Joe," keep bringing your family to bluegrass festivals
for many years to come, but don't forget that fiddle!"
